Native tree planting 2021

Native tree planting 2021

Every year in winter we plant native trees to replace pine trees that have been harvested. We'd love to get keen members of the community involved in our planting programme so if you'd like to help, get in contact for more information.

This year we were fortunate and grateful to receive 1,000 trees from Trees That Count (www.treesthatcount.co.nz). We received tawhairaunui (Nothofagus fusca / Red Beech) and Putaputaweta (Carpodetus serratus / Marbleleaf) from the Rimutaka Prison nursery, which have been sourced from Kuku Valley behind the prison grounds.

These trees added to the rātā, mānuka and rewarewa we planted too. In total, we got 4,000 plants in the ground over July and August.
